Welcome!

I am an Associate Professor in College of Integrative Sciences and Arts and I have been at ASU since 2016.  I teach anatomy and physiology at the Downtown Phoenix campus and conduct research on the main Tempe campus.

My primary area of interests centers on skeletal muscle plasticity / adaptation with exercise including changes in myosin heavy chain isoforms, microvascularity, and signals regulating the biogenesis and destruction of mitochondria. Recently, we have focused on how the mitochondrial peptide, MOTS-c, is influenced by aerobic exercise and, in turn, it impacts performance and systemic physiology.

My secondary research interest revolves science education and pedagogy.

Prior to my arrival at ASU (2016), I was faculty Georgetown University (2004–16) in the Department of Human Science preparing students for careers in science and health-related fields through teaching and engaging undergraduates in laboratory research.
