BIO 160: Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology
BIO 160 introduces essential concepts in human anatomy and physiology and the structure and function of the human body. A four-credit hour course (3 lecture, 1 lab) designed for students in the health- related professions. It will acquaint the student with human anatomy, structure, and function, basic disease concepts, and terminology. Course concepts will be organized and presented by organ systems, and the laboratory component of the course will emphasize human structure and function. The course has 3 contact hours for lecture and 3 contact hours for lab per week. BIO 160 is designed as a one-semester introduction to Anatomy and Physiology course. The objective of the course is to offer students an introductory experience that enables them to become conversant in the terminology, technology, and associated concepts in anatomy and physiology. Offered as a 15-week on-ground or a 7-week online course.
BIO 201: Anatomy and Physiology I
BIO201 covers the first half of the anatomy and physiology series offered at Arizona State University. This course begins with the micro (building blocks of matter, atoms & molecules, basic organic and inorganic chemistry), navigates the cell, tissues, and organs, and explores, in detail, several physiological systems of the human body including the skeletal system, joints/articulations, the muscular system, and then the nervous system. The remaining physiological systems are covered in both structure and function in the second half of Anatomy and Physiology (BIO202).
BIO 494: GIE: Global STEM Education: Science Teaching Experience in Costa Rica
This Global Intensive Experience focuses on students who are interested in sharing their knowledge in STEM subjects through a mentored teaching experience in Costa Rica. The mentored teaching will take place at the TIDE Academy in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, an alternative school that provides flexible, individualized education to students from non-traditional families, and promotes learning both inside and outside the classroom.
Students will have an opportunity to develop and refine foundational skills in science instruction that they will be able to apply in a mentored environment during their international experience. Once in Costa Rica, the directors will accompany participants in an on-site ‘walk-through’, intended to orient students to the locale, and help them develop comfort and familiarity with the surroundings.
